Eligibility Criteria For DNS

Marital StatusCandidate must be unmarried at the time of joining the course.
NationalityApplicant must be an Indian citizen and hold a valid Indian passport (or be eligible to obtain one).
Age

Minimum Age: Candidate should be 17 years of age as on approx.
1st August 2026*

Maximum Age:
19 years (for 10+2 candidates) OR 22 years (for B.Sc graduates) as on approx.
1st August 2026*
*Exact date depends on the starting date of the Pre-Sea Training Course.

Education
  • 10+2 with 65% marks in PCM aggregate, OR
  • 60% marks in the final year of B.Sc with Physics in any of the years, OR
  • 55% marks in the final year of B.E / B.Tech degree
  • Candidates who have completed B.Sc Nautical Science are NOT eligible
  • Minimum 50% marks in English at 10th, 12th, or graduation level
  • Candidates awaiting 12th results can apply
Physical Criteria
  • Must meet physical and medical standards as per DG Shipping & company norms
  • Medical examination to be conducted by Company & DG Shipping approved doctors ONLY
  • No speech deformity
  • Eyesight: 6/6 vision without aid and no colour blindness

will result in disqualification from further stages of the selection process.

Registration Process

  1. Online Application

    • Apply through MSC application portal. (Link Provided above)
    • Fill Personal details and upload Class 10 & 12 mark sheets, photo ID, and a recent photograph.

    • The written examination is generally spread over a week. Applicants are advised to choose an earlier exam date to avoid last-minute issues and to ensure smooth progression to the next stages of selection

  4. Personal Interview

  5. Medical Examination (DG Approved  & Company Doctor)

    • Must meet all DG Shipping and MSC medical requirements

  6. Final Sponsorship Selection

    • If you comply with all Company and DG Shipping criteria and have passed the following, you will be shortlisted for the final selection process:
    1. MSC Entrance written exam
    2. MSC Interview
    3. IMU entrance exam result – IMU ranking
    4. MSC Eyesight & Medical test
    5. MSC Psychometric test

    • Instructions for joining the MSC tie-up Maritime College will be given

  7. Admission to Maritime College

    • Join the 1-year DNS pre-sea course
    • Training conducted under MSC Shipping company supervision
    • Placement on MSC vessels after course completion

4. Medical Test 

Candidates must undergo a medical examination as per DG Shipping medical standards to ensure they meet the required fitness criteria for maritime service.
Medical test fee is approximately, around Rs 7000/- payable by candidate, Psychometric test fee is approximately Rs 1000/-. And payable by candidate – payable to MSC approved Psychometric counselling service.
