International Maritime Institute

Eligibility Criteria For DNS

 

Age20 years or less as of 1st Jan 2026 (born on or after 1st Jan 2006)
Education:
  • 12th cleared in 2025
  • Not more than two years difference in the year of passing 10th and 12th exams respectively.
  • Minimum Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) marks in 12th Std: 70% (improvement exam results will not be considered)
  • Minimum English score in 12th Std: 70% (improvement exam results will not be considered)
  • Candidates who have appeared for their 12th standard board exams via an Open Board, the NIOS board or through distance learning are not eligible.
Physical Criteria:
  • Height: Minimum 160 centimetres
  • BMI: not more than 25
  • No speech deformity
  • Eyesight 6/6 without aid and no colour blindness.
All candidates who clear our assessment are required to clear IMU CET and satisfy Fleet’s criteria to be eligible for admission in pre-sea institute.
Candidates should be in possession of a Passport before taking admission.

    • Fill Personal details and upload Class 10 & 12 mark sheets, photo ID, and recent photograph.

  2. Eligibility Screening

    • Eligibility as mentioned in the Eligibility criteria Tab.

  3. Fleet Centre Based Test

    • Aptitude (quantitative, logical, numerical)
    • English (grammar, vocabulary, comprehension)
    • Psychometric Test (personality and behavioural suitability) – [After clearing the main Test]

  4. Personal Interview (Fleet HR + Senior Officers)

    • Communication skills
    • Motivation to join merchant navy
    • Physics & maths questions
    • Maritime awareness, Geography and Ship-Knowledge
    • Situation-based and discipline-based questions

  5. Medical Examination (DG Approved Doctor)

    • Eyesight and colour vision test

    • Must meet all DG Shipping medical requirements

  6. Final Sponsorship Selection

    • Selected candidates receive Fleet’s Letter of Sponsorship after original documents submission and seat booking fee payment.
    • Instructions for joining IMI Noida will be given

  7. Admission to IMI Noida

    • Join the 1-year DNS pre-sea course
    • Training conducted under Fleet Management supervision
    • Priority placement on Fleet vessels after course completion
